Kentucky State Fair cakewalk

Plenty of talented cake-artisans in Kentucky, don'chaknow! Of course, my favorite cakes are the kind I can bake at home, and the Kentucky State Fair had case upon refrigerated case of them! As I'm not sure how many pics I can cram into one post, I'll be posting those cakes manana.
How about it...are you more into these fancy decorator cakes or homestyle? If anyone else has State Fair pics to share, please feel free to leave a link. Dunno why, but I'm ga ga over State Fairs. Hope to go to Tennessee's soon!

  1. Wow, those are some talented cake decorators! As for myself, I like good homestyle cakes but wouldn't be ashamed to turn out one of these fancy ones either.

Thanks for stopping by my blogs,as you can see my kitchen one has been neglected...for now.

  2. Personally, I like something in between. A nice homemade cake with a little bit of decoration (and a little bit is about all I'm capable of doing...LOL!)

Those cakes do look fun, though!

We didn't make it to the Missouri State Fair this year. We were just too busy with other things when it was on a week or so ago. Maybe next year.

  3. I just go to the county fair the last few years. But, we have no cakes like those. The contests are for cakes they taste. I am going to enter jelly, jam, cake, and bread, hoping to win ribbons this year. I think I won four year before last.

The cakes you posted are a feast for the eyes! MORE! Please.

  5. Wow! those are impressive! Were they done by kids or adults? Either way, I'm impressed! I'm more of a home cake with simple decorations kind of girl myself.

  6. A lot of talented cake decorators. Personally I would be too scared to "destroy" the decorations to eat the cake. Those are nice for very special occasions only.

  8. Awesome photos! I love the fancy cakes as eye candy, but the simpler, homemade variety is much more satisfying as a treat if you ask me! Now you have me wanting to bake a cake...

  9. Oh my gosh! These are fantastic! My fave is the Alice in Wonderland one. I appreciate the artistic value in these, but in reality I'd probably just stick with the homemade variety.

  16. My best friend is a pastry chef, so she can do some pretty neat stuff too.

We had a cupcake tower for our wedding (made by someone else since the BFF was my MOH). If you look close, you can see it in one of he photos I posted: http://adoseoftlc.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/the-breakdown-of-our-wedding/
