Craving hot cocoa?

No more wasted packaging and money buying individually packaged cocoa mixes: just make your own. In a large microwaveable mug, put 1 & 1/2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa (I use Hershey's Special Dark) and a pinch of salt. Stir together then add a tablespoon or so of milk and stir to mix...slowly add more milk, about 6-8oz. or so, until your cocoa is the color you like. Nuke in microwave for 1 minute on high, then add large marshmellows and nuke up to 20 seconds, being careful to watch so it doesn't overflow. Then drink!! Adjust the amounts to suit your own preference.

I do this as well! It's less wasteful, but I also just like the taste better when I make it myself (read: CHOCOLATE, LOTS OF CHOCOLATE).

Sometimes I add other things too, like vanilla extract, ginger, cinnamon, or nutmeg to give it a different feel.

It's very much a comfort food for me.

Hot Chocolate Jar Mix Recipe

Ingredients:
1½ cups powder milk
1½ cups white sugar ( I do not add sugar to mine, I add Agave Syrup per serving)
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa
¾ cup non-dairy creamer

To Make this Jar Gift:
Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir well. For a finer mix, combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and mix well.

Store in an air tight container.
I store mine in a Mason Jar (I heart Mason Jars)

grazie, Patty! I buy powdered milk to use in baking, but I can't seem to get used to it in hot chocolate, but your comment gives me the idea to go ahead and mix up a big batch of the cocoa, sugar & spices ahead of time, to make the whole process faster. (y'know, the process from craving to couch time)
