Holiday visits offer a great opportunity to 'Unstuff the Holidays'

When we went to our folks' houses this Thanksgiving, I took along some STUFF that no longer has a place in our lives. Like these crystal glasses that were part of our wedding registry. My SIL snapped these up right away, and I am happy to know someone else will be loving and USING these. Giving things to family doesn't feel like giving "away." There's no sense of loss, as I am just extending the family history of our stuff.
Looks like I'm not the only one with decluttering on my mind. Gotta love this article I just found on Yes! Magazine: Let’s Unstuff the Holidays by Fran Korten — YES! Magazine. Happy Decluttering!!

What a great article-I particularly liked how the lady wrapped a gift for each of her guests--and they could trade until everyone had something they liked, and she was "lighter" by 42 objects.
Glad you found a home for the crystal. It's great to have if you use it, but...........

Have a great weekend!

yup, Sue, you nailed it. great to have, but... In my case, that is followed with, "but if you're too lazy to want to wash it and use it occasionally." ;)

It's good to know that it will be loved by somebody else. We've got so many glasses but they're not ready to be moved on 'yet'.

Wow! Lucky family! I unload my stuff at all those white elephant parties that seem to happen this time of year.

what a great idea! wish my family was nearby! my nieces could use a few of my excess 'treasures'! :)

That IS a great way to get rid of things.

Although when I went to visit my grandma for Thanksgiving I left with her silver collection and my sister left with her china, so I guess it can go both ways if you're not careful. ;)

hi dmarie, i think it's a very kind idea to give those glasses away since you're no longer using them. I have those clothings of mine, they are still good but for some reasons, i'm just not wearing them. even if i put them in my closet for another year, they would still be there untouched so yeah, just gave them away.

I think that half the battle of uncluttering is knowing that you are doing something wise. Having someone who is blessed by the receiving makes it so much easier... you go girl!

Blessings, Debbie

I like decluttering and there's always people who need something you don't need anymore. Your crystal glasses are beautiful and they must have been a great surprise gift for your SIL. :-)

What beautiful looking glasses and I'm so glad they went to an appreciative home rather than being tossed in the bin.

Good for you on sharing those glasses so that they get some real use. I have plenty of "stuff" that I should do the same with. You may just have inspired me. :)
