Just came across an intriguing post on Attainable Sustainable: 100 Items to Disappear First. Though I wouldn't call myself a prepper, after living a couple of weeks without electricity following an ice storm, articles such as this get my attention. Can't say I'm preparing for a long term disaster, but I do like to be somewhat prepared for the unexpected.
The list of 100 items reminds me that I've been meaning to pick up some clear lamp oil. Y'know, just in case! What's on your "just in case" list of plan-to-buys?

I do need to get lamp oil since I have none at all.
It always strikes me that I need sturdy boots. I hate to tie things on my feet and I hate boots, but wool socks would make them more bearable. I have rubber boots that I remove my shoes to wear barefoot, but I am only going to feed three hens or take out the garbage when it rains. My feet freeze in them.
The one thing I won't be stockpiling is toilet paper. I just packed 1 cubic yard of white fabric into 7 boxes today. I think I might be good in the wiping dept. It is cotton knit, nice feel to it ( aka hand).
I am always thinking about being prepared but haven't really gone all out on it. I have started getting case foods and I am kind of a freak about vinegar, as it is good for so many things...that reminds me I'd better get more. - I like having batteries of every size and almost have them all. - That is smart of you to not forget your ice storm challenge even when winter is so far off. xo
Hubby and I are always well stocked with food and such, but woefully unprepared for a LONG term event. We keep "talking" about it, but really gotta get off our duffs............
@Linda, because they're so soft, we use cut up old t-shirts (bigger than baby washcloths) to wipe Grandbaby after she pees, but use wipes for any other of her business.
@Sherri B., actually that ice storm challenge wasn't a practice, it was for real--literally we were without electricity for 2 weeks. Many years ago a water main broke when we were living in town & we were without potable water for a week, so that's made me conscious about having extra water on hand. Real life events have taught me the lessons...I really should have more on hand than I do!
@Sue, I'm unprepared for long term too. I've only dipped my toe into prepping. don't really like thinking about it. *sigh*
