Saving some green almost cost us the greens

Our first kale of the season...picked by Hubby, eagerly de-stemmed and washed by me, then sautéed by Hubby. And if I hadn't taken a pic of their green, vitamin-packed loveliness, we might have had no kale for dinner!
Hubby was cooking the greens in a dim light but the camera flash told the tale: the kale was starting to burn! Yikes! Fortunately, all was not lost and very little needed to be picked out. The remainder was not tainted...much...but boy, was that close.
Yes, in this instance, not turning on the light to save some green almost cost us the greens. Any close calls in your kitchen lately?

Confession time for me, my DH, is forever turning on the kitchen light, and saying "look what you are doing" ...As you said I'm always trying to save the electricity and not always a good thing:(

I must confess, my kitchen is lit up like the sky on the 4th of July. I have two lights over the sink, two undercounter fluorescents, a ceiling fan with four lights, and the light over the stove. I KNOW that I cannot see...lol. A dimly lit kitchen is not how I will save money.

Last night, I had to cook 20lbs of chicken leg/thigh quarters. I can only cook 10 lbs at a time and these would not go in the full refrigerator. So, at 11 pm I got 10 lbs in the oven. THEN, I had to go to bed. I set the alarm for 1 am to take the chicken parts from the oven.

At 4 am, I awoke and expected to see the chicken burned to a crisp. Nope. The cooking bags keep chicken moist. This afternoon, I cooked the other 10 lbs. Tomorrow, a 6 lb roast is destined for the oven. Crisis was diverted but I still have time to cause one.

My kids cook with me, so we have a close-call every day. :)

Oh, what a good save!

Your kale variety looks quite different to ours.... must check it out. To stir fry some would be delicious.
The type we grow needs to be sliced finely and cooked for a while in casseroles or soups.

Um, as for close calls in our house... well, yes, the steamer runs out of water too darn quickly! ;-)

mmm I love sauteed kale! I haven't had too many close calls in the kitchen so hopefully it stays that way!!! Oh...one time I started brown rice, fell asleep and woke up 3 hours later to very burned rice and a ruined pot :-/
