Maybe a "grown-up" should be ashamed to admit the need for some sort of dangling carrot to get motivated, but hey, where's the shame in a clean closet? Each time I leveled up in the game, I made myself go remove/clean one section of my closet.
As I cleaned, in my head I could hear the game still cheering me on:
- Cleared out shoes no longer worn. Good!
- Put unwanted clothes, etc., in a bag for Goodwill. Excellent!
- Recycled all empty boxes saved for products no longer under warranty. Awesome!
- Removed everything from floor, put on shelves or found more logical places for them. Spectacular!
- Cleaned wood floor, woodwork and shelving unit. Extraordinary!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I hear the siren call of some game calling my name...another closet awaits!
Okay, I'm not completely shameless; this is embarassing: This bag was on the floor in my closet-- with stuff in it from the job I left forever ago! |

I am seriously addicted to a similar game... I call it "keep me from dementia game"...hehehe
That's MY Story!

When I had tv, I used the same tactic. "If/when you get the dishes done/bathroom or just the commode cleaned, then you can watch MEDIUM." Or, the nightly news. Or, FRIENDS. I did not let myself have the reward first. I had to be threatened with losing the privilege of watching whatever was coming up. Sometimes, I had a list I had to complete before the 5 pm news and a lineup of my favorite shows. If anyone else tried that with me, I would rebel and run away. I can work really fast when faced with consequences of my own making. Folding clothes was a tv time chore since it is so boring and mindless anyway.
Ooh! I love that game too. Maybe I could try your tactic when I'm dragging the chain...like today
Level one- make bed
Level two- have shower
Level three- etc etc.

Ah I love cleaning (afterwards at least!) Your closet looks so nice and clean now :-)
Thank you for you comments about my classes! I need some motivation...summer classes are tough!
Great idea to share! I must try playing some games (that I am really good at!) soon and hoping to get my husband clean the house!
*chuckle* LOVE the comments...glad I'm not the only one to need incentives to clean! I love the after part too!
What a cool idea! Thanks :D)
